January went well with 3 winners from 8 runners.
The well-bred By Invitation won at Kempton on the 4th January. From the family of Dream Ahead and Land of Dreams, she has had a break since and will be prepared for a turf campaign.
Oasis Dancer hacked up three days later at Lingfield in a 6f 0-100. He will go to the Listed Cleves Stakes at Lingfield on 25th February. Unbelievably he has failed to get any black type thus far. I think it’s what’s called ‘trainer error’. In current form he should rectify it.
Maverik won on his first attempt at 1m at Kempton on the 24th January. He heads out to St Moritz next week to run on the 19th February over 9 furlongs. A free running sort, he should suit the way races are run there, where keeping out of the kickback is important. Whatever the result you can be sure that the syndicate who own him will make the most of it.
We are in for a quiet month runners wise, but we have St Moritz to look forward to, and I would like to hit the ground running at the start of the turf season. There are a few two year olds that were bought to come early; hopefully a couple of them will come to hand.
