Trainers Diary October 2011

September went better in terms of winners – seven this month. But it was slow to come our way, Fabulouslyspirited won her maiden over 8f at Kempton on 12th September, a big filly she has taken time to come to hand, but we might progress with her as a result. Albert Bridge won a 12f handicap at Newbury on 16th September. He split a pastern in the spring, so it was only his fourth start. He should make up in to a nice 4 year old. 2 year old Napoleons Muse won a 7f maiden at Kempton on her second start. A tough filly, she had to battle. Sandbanks Sizzler won at Epsom on 25th September. A late developer, there might be more to come, though I can’t see the handicapper being too forgiving over his 14 length win. 2 year old Electrelane won on debut at Chepstow on 27th September. A Dubawi filly with a pedigree, she loved the soft ground. Frog Hollow didn’t appreciate the same conditions on the following day at Salisbury – but he won anyway – and is a horse to look forward to next year. And Seaside Sizzler won again, at Warwick, knuckling down to beat one of Mark Johnston’s in a photo. We also had plenty of seconds – including four on 28th September! Cubanita catching the eye at Salisbury on debut, finishing second. As far as the new whip rules are concerned….at least everyone knows where they stand. I’m not sure I understand why all the fuss about the fixture list coming out late. The racecourses know when their big days are going to be, and is it really such a disaster that racing diaries won’t have time to put all the dates in? Lets face it most people use the internet for all info nowadays. National Hunt trainers will suffer most – and they haven’t been jumping up and down. Surely it is more important that the right balance is attained? Let’s hope it is.
