Ralph Beckett

Whitsbury Manor Stables

Ralph started training in 2000, since when he has trained the winners of 176 races up to October 2007. A former assistant to Peter Walwyn, Arthur Moore and Martin Pipe, Ralph started as a stable lad with Jimmy Fitzgerald and had spells in USA and Australia.

Group success has been achieved with Pennkenna Princess in 2005 (Grp 3 Fred Darling) and more recently with Celtic Slipper (2007 Grp 3 Premio Dormello, Milan), whilst wins in Listed grade have come with Tau Ceti (James Seymour Stks), Penkenna Princess (Oh So Sharp Stks) and Kayah (Lingfield Oaks Trial). Penkenna Princess was only denied classic glory in the 2005 Irish 1000 Guineas by the minimum margin. The yards biggest handicap success saw Come On Jonny a wide margin winner of the 2005 November Handicap.

In January 2006, Ralph moved to Whitsbury from his first base at Windsor House Stables, Lambourn. His first season here saw 31 winners nearly match the 2005 score of 32, but 2007 has provided reward for taking on the bigger challenge that Whitsbury presents by saddling 41 winners, with a number of useful 3yo prospects amongst them.

2008 promises to be even more lucrative for a burgeoning yard with capacity now up to 94 boxes.
